Private Travel and The Role of an FBO

Published May 4th, 2022 by Thepjcadmin

An FBO (fixed-base operator) is the general provider of services for business aviation aircraft, crew members and passengers. Whether fueling the aircraft or acting as the passenger terminal upon arrival or departure, FBO's play a key role in your flight. Many private travelers are familiar with the large companies across major and regional airports such as Signature Flight Support and Atlantic Aviation. However, there are often multiple FBO's at each airport, allowing for various advantages or disadvantages. Aircraft operators typically have an existing relationship with their primary airports and corresponding FBO providers, so they will often schedule their aircraft for departure or arrival at those. The benefits are fuel rates, landing and handling discounts and dependable service they have learned to trust. However, it is important to work with a knowledgeable aviation company such as The PJC when it comes to the slightest level of detail that may make your travel day even more seamless. An example is that some FBO's do not have an air-stair, the item used to help physically challenged passengers, available to help a passenger up or down the steep grade of the jet steps; that uncomfortable delay can be avoided with proactive effort by your charter provider. Another example is the positioning of the FBO on the airport in relation to where your final destination is, helping cut down on unnecessary driving.  We take the extra effort to ensure that flights arrive and depart from the same FBO, so that if you leave a vehicle at the airport, you return to the same location. These minor details save a lot of headache when traveling privately and should not be something you are concerned or burdened with. Whether you are wondering if you can drive to your aircraft on the tarmac, or curious if your car will be washed while you are on your trip, we are happy to help answer any questions you have.
